Engineering News Record Select Construction Material Prices

Welcome to our Substack Blog that focuses on construction costs. Engineering News Record (ENR) history that can be traced back to 1874. The publication has its roots in two separate publications, Engineer & Surveyor and The Plumber and Sanitary Engineer. The first issue of Engineering News-Record was published on April 5, 1917. On January 1st, 1987, the acronym ENR was adopted as the title of the magazine. The charts that follow use data that are courtesy of ENR magazine that is published 26 times a year. Historical data was pulled from microfiche copies of the magazine obtained from the New York Public Library. Construction Metal Prices

I Beams

Although the parabolic rise in I Beam price had begun to slow it nonetheless has notched a new high and is up 10.11% since last August.

Stainless Steel Sheet

The ENR 20-City Average Price of 16-Gauge Stainless Steel Sheet has pulled back from the May highs. It is now up 5.41% over the past 12 months through August.

Re Bar

Re Bar prices have spiked higher since the end of March, and notching a new all time high in August and is up + 5.24% since this time last year.

Aluminum Sheet

Aluminum Sheet prices are one of few construction material prices that has contracted over the past twelve months by being down -5.28% over the past 12-months. LME Aluminum prices are down more than -22% since the January highs.

Aggregate Prices

Concrete Ready Mix

Ready Mix Concrete prices are churning sideways since the Q2 spike higher leaving the ENR 20-City average price up +9.98 since last September.

Concrete Block

After a brief shallow pullback the ENR 20-City Average Price of Lightweight Concrete Block has spiked to a new all time high and is up +21.98 since last September.

Crushed Stone

Another new high this month in the ENR-20-City Average Price of Crushed Stone and it is up +35.07% since September of last year.

Asphalt Paving

The per/ton price of Asphalt Paving has continued its grind higher. The 20-City Average price is up 9.06% since this time last year.

Portland Cement

The price of Portland Cement eked out a new record high over last month and is up +20.54% over the past 12 months.

Masonry Sand

The only word to describe the price action in Masonry Sand is that it continues in its parabolic move higher marking a +49.47% gain since September of last year.

Concrete Sand

Although the tweve month rate of change in Concrete Sand is not as extreme as Masonry Sand it nonethe less has also “gone parabolic” and is up +42.97% over the past twelve months.
